Common questions
What is Whois?
Whois is a public lookup that shows a domain's registration details: registration and expiry dates, the registrar, the name servers (DNS) and the domain's status. For generic extensions (.com, .net, .org …) this information now comes from a newer protocol called RDAP. Since 28 January 2025, ICANN no longer requires registrars to offer the old Whois service and treats RDAP as the standard.
Why doesn't Whois show the domain owner's name?
Because of GDPR in Europe and KVKK in Türkiye, personal data (name, address, phone, email) is hidden in most records. What you usually see is the registrar, the dates and the name servers. To contact the owner, use the registrar's contact form.
How do I look up .tr and .com.tr domains?
.tr domains are managed by TRABİS (Türkiye's domain name system) and are not in RDAP. So for a .tr lookup, use TRABİS's own lookup service.
How do I find a domain's expiry date?
Type the domain into the box above and press "Look up". In the result, the "Expires" line shows how long the domain is registered for. Expired domains usually become available again after a waiting period.
What can I do if the domain I want is taken?
Try a different extension (.com.tr, .net, .io …) or a small change; in domain search, "Find a name" also gives you suggestions. If the domain is yours and with another provider, you can transfer it to ikahost.
Does a Whois lookup cost anything? Are lookups logged?
It's free. The lookup goes from your browser straight to public RDAP servers; ikahost does not log your lookups.
